Situated in the very heart of the island, Grohote is the largest and oldest settlement on Solta. It is famous for its painters, representatives of the so-called naive art (Eugen Buktenica, Dinko Sule, Marin Kalajzic). Grohote also has the Music Choir "Olinta" and the Huntsmen Society "solta".
 

In Grohote visitors may buy the famous Solta honey, pollen and propolis, as well as taste some of the local specialities. Among the events held in Grohote, the most important feast day is the Assumption of Our Lady (15th of August), accompanied by a folk fiesta.
 

GROHOTE, a village on the island of Solta, 3 km from the coast and the Rogac harbour; elevation 107 m; population 631. Economy is based on farming, viticulture, olive growing, livestock breeding, processing of synthetic materials and production of building materials. Grohote is located on the re-gional road running through the island.
 

Next to the parish church are the foundations of a three-nave early Christian basilica from the 6th-7th century (with the baptistery and the narthex), and on the cemetery are two early Christian sarcophagi. In the middle of the village is a defence tower from the 17th century, as well as several fortified rural structures from the same period. Close to the village is the Gothic church of St. Michael from the 14th-15th century, with Gothic frescoes. - In the Rogac harbour is a citadel, built at the beginning of the 18th century.
